We have a new Art Therapist joining Niddrie Medical Practice. Mai will be delivering art therapy to patients of Niddrie Medical Practice on Tuesdays within the surgery. These are a free service offered to anyone who is our patient.
Art therapy promotes emotional and psychological well-being. It is an evidence-based practice, regulated by the Health Care Professions Council. Therapists are required to meet national standards for training, professional skills and behaviour
Art therapy is effective when:
- communication is difficult
- words don’t work
- being with people is hard
An art therapist can help you to:
- relax and enjoy working with art materials
- identify what is going on for you
- understand yourself and other people better
- use art making to manage thoughts and feelings
They can also work with you to jointly assess your mental health, help you communicate better with your medical team, and signpost alternative sources of help.
