Our Role as a Training Practice

We are a dedicated teaching and training practice, providing teaching to medical students years 2 and 4  and Registrars. Registrars are doctors who are training  to become General Practitioners, they have already worked in hospital placements but are being supervised to develop the necessary skills and breadth of experience to be an excellent GP.

Most  of our patients understand and accept that the education and training of medical students, doctors in training rely on them having access to information about patients. If doctors in training or medical  students are part of the team supporting a patient’s direct care, they can have access to the patient’s personal information, just as other team members do and are governed by the same confidentiality rules as the rest of the team. This access is available to students and trainees only where appropriate, unless the patient objects.

As part of  our Registrar’s  training they  may ask patients  to record consultations so that these can be assessed by trainers or as part of an exam. As a patient you would always be told about this first and such recordings will be governed by the current GDPR guidelines and be destroyed after discussion unless,  explicit consent otherwise was obtained.
